Objective:
- Improve access to sports facilities for improving wellbeing and fostering teamwork.
Strategy:
- To provide sports and recreational facilities.
Beneficiaries:
- Employees of MCL and residents of Maamba township.
- MCL sponsors a football team Maamba Energy Stars, formerly the ZAMCOAL Diggers, whose continued good performances has seen the team being promoted to the First Division of the National League run by the Football Association of Zambia.
- MCL encourages students to realize their potential in various sports activities, by supporting the school sports calendar as outlined by the Ministry of Education. The home stadium of the Energy Stars is regularly made available to District Education Board for use for sporting events for schools in the district.
- MCL also runs the Maamba Golf Club and has recently upgraded the Club House to provide recreation facilities to MCL employees and the community. It houses a bar, a restaurant, a gymnasium, pool tables and table tennis court.
- The company also runs racquet clubs for tennis, squash and badminton to provide opportunities for sports and use by all members of the community.
